Help for Heroes (H4H) will benefit financially when a Herefordshire man rows 2,598 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean.

Mike Evans is planning to complete the gruelling task in aid of the military charity, although he first needs to raise his own funding of £16,500, reveals the Ledbury Reporter.

Mr Evans has set a hugely difficult target for the challenge – to break the current world record of 32 days to complete the route. In fact, he is aiming to finish in under 30 days.

"We will all be put through the most demanding experience of our lives, not just physically but mentally," he explained.

As part of an eight-man team, Mr Evans will set off from Gran Canaria on board Titan and then row towards the Caribbean island of Barbados.

Before the challenge can begin, he must raise £15,000 to run the boat and £1,500 for travel costs and accommodation.
