The number of kind-hearted people across the country who dedicate their spare time to organising events to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity is phenomenal.

But the latest event to raise funds to go towards helping members of the armed forces who have been injured during battle is something quite different from the norm.

Members of staff from Beverley Ambulance Station in East Yorkshire got together with their families on Saturday (May 1st) to take part in a sponsored bed push, the East Riding Mail reports.

Raising a staggering £2,500 for the charity, event organisers explained that they were overwhelmed by the public’s response.

Organiser Adele Dick explained that the Help for Heroes is very close to her heart as she has family members serving in the armed forces.

"We hear on the news about the deaths in Afghanistan but not so much about the injuries, people don’t realise how many people are getting injured and coming back without limbs … this money is going towards their rehabilitation," she said.

Elsewhere, a group of police officers from Lewisham will soon embark on a 24-kilometre run across the highest peak in the Welsh mountains in the hope of raising £10,000 for the cause.
