Over nine million Britons are going online in an effort to find love.

This is according to newly-released research and it highlights how people are keen to make sure they find their Mr or Mrs Right.

It also found that 30 per cent of new relationships are starting through the internet.

According to the Guardian, the medium first gained popularity back in 2000, but the explosion in internet use has been reflected in the number of individuals looking to the web to find their perfect partner.

People have also become much more accepting of the internet as a platform for dating, while firms are diverting more funds into advertising.

This, coupled with the rise of social media channels, has led many people to try their luck on the web.

If single individuals want to be successful in this medium, then they have to put some time and effort into drawing up the right online profile.
