Soldiers that end up in the battlefield seldom get over the high they get from being everyday heroes. Carol Cooke is one such veteran, who never gave up on her adventurous spirit.

The 75-year-old grandmother didn’t just enlist, she even married a military man. Cooke recently walked the wins of a flying plane – a feat most of us wouldn’t even dream of attempting, let alone at this age!

The best part is that she did it to mark not only her birthday but also the D-Day commemorations. Cooke joined the army at the age of just 17. Right before she took to the skies, she said she loved what she was about to do and called it “silly”. Well that’s one way to look at being a daredevil.

She was in the air for 10 minutes atop a 1942 Boeing Stearman craft. “I’m not the average Great Grandma who sits at home knitting and sewing – a wing walk is something I’ve always wanted to do. When I first saw it done, it was with the Utterly Butterly plane and I always told people that I was going to be an Utterly Butterly lady, and now my dream is coming true,” Cooke said while speaking to the media.

But, despite how she makes it all sound, her most recent heroics aren’t just for fun. Cooke went through with it to raise funds for Hope For Tomorrow, a charity that focuses on cancer care. The veteran lost her father to cancer – and coincidentally, he was also a Royal Marine.

For what it’s worth, we hope we can find the courage and tenacity to live the kind of life that this grandma has chosen for herself!
