Some 65 per cent of single women would consider online dating to find a special someone.

This is according to newly-released research, which may be of interest to single soldiers, which also discovered 78 per cent of men are willing to log onto the web.

Individuals in their teens and 20s are most comfortable with the activity, which could be because they are more technologically savvy and have grown up with online dating being an option.

People who are looking for soldiers penpals may be happy to know the pastime has become more socially acceptable.

When it comes to finding the perfect partner, age may no longer be a big issue.

This is because a study carried out by YouGov discovered some 57 per cent of Britons think it is fine to date a person who is ten years younger.

It also found the average age gap in marriages in between three and six years.
