Nearly two-thirds of people who use online dating are searching for a serious relationship.

This is according to newly-released research from Coffee Meets Bagel, which has found that the majority of individuals who use the internet to find that special someone are not looking for anything casual.

In fact, a further 13 per cent of women and four per cent of men admitted they want to find a spouse on the web.

Dawoon Kang, a social dating expert, noted most of the people who were questioned as part of the study were in their 20s, but still wanted something long-term.

"It's encouraging to see that an equal number of men and women are looking for serious relationships from online dating and believe that it makes it easier to meet interesting people," she added.

On top of this, a majority of both sexes think it is easier to meet interesting individuals through the internet.
