A Coventry company that organised a five-a-side football tournament has raised over £5,000 that will be used to support soldiers who have returned from the front line.

Meggitt Dunlop set up the event to generate cash for Help for Heroes, a charity that provides assistance to armed forces personnel who have been wounded while serving their country, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

Over 100 players took part, including 70 staff from the company – which manufactures aircraft braking systems – along with personnel from Rolls-Royce, Morson Projects and Jaguar Sports and Social Club, which hosted the matches.

"We've had everyone playing from shop floor personnel up to the managing director," organiser Madhan Lal Jassal was quoted by the news source as saying, adding they chose Help for Heroes because "it's a charity close to people's hearts".

The charity has raised £70 million since it was formed three years ago and has set the target of generating another £42 million.
