3 Rifles given hero's welcome in Edinburgh

Thousands of people packed into the streets of Edinburgh on Saturday (May 8th) to welcome home the 3 Rifles from Afghanistan.

In a highly emotional day, members of the public lined the Royal Mile as troops made their way from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace and cheered them on all the way.

An army spokeswoman said that the turnout and the well wishes from the crowd really plucked at the soldiers' heart strings.

You couldn't walk down the pavements of the Royal Mile because there were that many people waiting to see them. The guys looked pretty emotional, pretty choked," she stated.

Members of the 11st Battalion the Royal Welsh were given a similar welcome in Chester recently.

The 550-member strong troop enjoyed an emotional reunion with family and friends in the city following their five-month tour of Afghanistan.

During the fighting, the regiment found the biggest improvised explosive device ever discovered by the British army.
