Alesha Dixon and Pixie Lott have both performed at the official launch of the 2012 Poppy Appeal.

The musicians took to a specially-erected stage in Trafalgar Square in London yesterday (October 24th).

Hosted annually by the Royal British Legion (RBL), this year's appeal target is £42 million, which would represent the most ever collected.

All of the money raised will go towards providing vital support for members of the armed forces and their families in need.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Dixon stated: "I am honoured to be a part of the Poppy Appeal this year. [Soldiers] put their necks on the line to give us all a normal life and I'm glad to be giving something back."

Lott also described her delight at being asked by the RBL to take part in the event, adding that her grandfather and great-grandfather were in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Light Infantry respectively.
