A mammoth burger that contains almost a full day's recommended calorie intake has been described as "ludicrous" after a pub chain put it on sale.

Pub-restaurant chain Hungry Horse’s Double Donut Burger, which is sold with the tagline ‘So Wrong It’s Right’ was shot down in flames by Mel Wakeman, senior lecturer in Applied Physiology at Birmingham City University, who said: “To me, this is simply ludicrous and irresponsible. I am no killjoy but why is this sort of food available? This burger is literally a heart attack on a plate

“Hungry Horse obviously have no conscience and no doubt both their wallet and the size of their customers will be getting fatter by the week!”

The massive burger contains 98 per cent of the recommended daily calorie intake for a woman – 1,966 calories. This is far more than a normal cheeseburger from McDonalds, which has 440 calories.

So just where do all these calories come from? The sandwich contains two beef burgers, topped with melted cheese and four slices of streaky bacon. But that's not all – instead of the traditional bread roll, chefs are putting the burger between two grilled glazed donuts.

Spokesperson for Hungry Horse Steve Jebson said: “All the nutritional information for our menu is available on our website and in our pubs, so that our customers are able to make informed decisions about what they choose to eat.”

In other donut related news, commuters at a train station in Scotland nearly rioted recently after many were given free donuts on their way to work. American giant Krispy Kreme was handing out the treats free of charge by the box at Livingston North, but the problem was that there were not enough to go around.

When unlucky commuters realised what had been going on, they argued that they should be shared around. Unfortunately, people who had got their hands on a box disagreed, and many a heated word was exchanged. ADNFCR-2867-ID-801759555-ADNFCR
