Nipping in the takeaway for a bite to eat after one too many pints is something of a tradition for many Brits – yet they might struggle to get a doner kebab made in Turkey out the door, let alone eat it.

Made from seven cows, the huge meat offering has entered the record books after officials from Guinness World Records confirmed it is the largest the world has ever seen.

Coming in at 1,198 kg, the kebab weighed almost twice as much as the previous record holder, which was served up in Australia eight years ago.

The enormous meat slab stood 2.5 metres tall and a crane was required to hold it in place while the Guinness representatives made their measurements.

Lucky spectators at Ankara Shopping Fest in Genclik Park, Ankara, were then served up a feast as the cooks – it took ten to create it in total – sliced off pieces for them to devour.
