The homecoming parade for 11 Light Brigade brought out well-wishers in droves, it has been revealed.

Winchester came to a stand-still as 650 troops were applauded by the crowd, which was made up of people of all ages, the BBC reports.

The soldiers, who had returned from deployment in Afghanistan, marched through the town’s streets and up to the Guildhall.

Among the throngs were friends and family of the servicemen and women.

One such relative was Kim Shaw, who was pleased to see her son again: "They are all heroes, I’m very proud of him."

Paul Graham brought his children to the event and stated: "What’s going on in Afghanistan is helping the whole country and the whole world."

It was revealed earlier in the week that Dave Lewis – a Royal Air Force engineer – has organised a sponsored walk along the Malvern Hills as he aims to raise cash for the Help for Heroes charity.
