Individuals are trying to raise £110,000 to build a bakery near Leeds for armed forces veterans.
Marco Pierre White has backed the scheme, which is seeking to help ex-servicemen and women learn new skills and gain qualifications, the Yorkshire Post reports.
Once the money has been collected the project will be developed at the Beacon at Catterick, a centre that helps former military personnel struggling with combat stress.
Pierre White – who has hosted Hell's Kitchen and gained three Michelin stars by the age of 33 – was full of enthusiasm for the initiative.
"I strongly believe we all have a duty to support our soldiers and that duty of care shouldn't stop on their return home," he added.
Out of the 17,000 who leave the armed forces every year, some 8,000 are expected to develop mental health problems.
The Beacon caters for members of the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
