Knowing what to write in a letter to your penpal can be a bit of a struggle for some people. Striking up an ongoing conversation with a person when you are not face-to-face is obviously more difficult, as the conversation does not flow in the same way.

However, the advantage of letter writing is that it is much easier to relate to a person living far away as the very act of seeking out a soldier to write to will help you to connect with like-minded people.

And the great news is, there are many things to write about.

We list just a few of these below.

Introduce yourself

When you write to someone, it is always a good idea to introduce yourself as fully as possible so that the other person gets a complete idea of who they are writing to.

Naturally, this should include your name, where you live, your background and whether you have any siblings, et cetera.

Hobbies and interests

Your hobbies and interests will determine how much you have in common, and helps you to form a bond with the other person.

It also helps a person to relate to you more and get a better idea of you as a person.

If you have a love of sports, or theatre or music for example, even if the other person does not share them, it gives the person a useful insight into new concepts and into your life.

Political viewpoints

When you have started to build a rapport with someone, then you can write about your political viewpoints, or if you feel that may be inappropriate, then you can discuss current affairs or some of the key political developments that are occurring.

If you are writing to a veteran deployed overseas, then this may actually prove to be quite useful information as it may be something they are not aware of.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801800543-ADNFCR
