Text based emotion signs – like smilies – can form a big part of online dating text chat. 🙂

Not everyone uses them – some might even feel like they are silly, and not a 'proper' form of language – but they certainly have their uses!

They're fun

Using 😀 type symbols can be a fun way to make the conversation seem that bit more casual – many of us use them when we text our friends, so why not give them a go in dating site chat? You'll probably find that the extent to which you roll them out is influenced to some extent by the actions of the person you're chatting to. If they don't use any, you might end up cutting back!

They can help show how you feel

Well, after all, that is the point of text emoticons! If what you've said is a little bit ambiguous, maybe a 🙂 or a 🙁 can help put your point across!

They are also good for showing your reaction to things like humour. Of course you can say 'ha ha', 'lol' and the like, but it's possible a grin 😀 could really show your appreciation for a good joke!

Are you a nose person?

Some people are all about the noses when it comes to their little text faces, using a dash to help define the face :-). To some, this helps convey the face image a little bit better. But of course it's a tiny bit quicker to cut out the nose, and people will know what you mean! There are lots of different options when it comes to text faces!

Communication break down?

One thing to bear in mind with text faces, is that although most of us know what :-), :-(, 😀 etc mean, there are some slightly more obscure expressions that you might find yourself needing to explain to a fellow site user if you use them! ADNFCR-2867-ID-801745067-ADNFCR
