The army was like a second family to me, says injured solider

A brave solider who was injured in battle in Afghanistan has said that he continues to hold fond feelings of the army.

"When I look back I've got no regrets. I have loved the lifestyle. It was like a second family for me," Jack Davies of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards told the Leicester Mercury.

The solider lost a leg after a land mine exploded just inches away from where he was standing in the Afghan desert.

But the injury has done nothing to dampen Jack's spirits, who explained that he is confident that he will soon be able to walk independently with his prosthetic leg.

"I'm still able to lead a life I want to live," he said.

A concert in Jack's honour is set to be held on Saturday (March 20th) in order to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.

Tom Neathway, who lost three limbs while serving in Afghanistan, recently stated that he is determined to complete his tour of duty in the country and hopes to return to his post as a sniper in northern Helmand.
