There's be some high-action charity fundraising going on for Help for Heroes (H4H) in Rutland recently.

Oakham's Catmose Sports Centre gave people the chance to help one of the country's most famous service charities by taking part in an obstacle course activity, reports the Rutland and Stamford Mercury.

And the participants really did their bit, bringing up close to a grand for H4H in the activity. The total raised was £950, and in excess of 120 people finished the assault course.

It was deemed a great success by centre manager, Matt Chamberlain, the news provider reports.

"I am very proud of the effort put in by all the staff and volunteers on the day," Chris Collins, duty manager, told the news provider.

"The atmosphere was fantastic and we raised a lot of money for an excellent cause. The team are already planning their next event and hoping to make it even bigger and better."

The gym also helped out Help for Heroes by hosting some market stalls during July.

It comes after the Huntingdon, St Ives and St Neots News & Crier (Cambridge-news.co.uk) reported that Cllr Ian Curtis, Ramsey's mayor, had undertaken a charity head shave – partly in aid of Help for Heroes.

Helen, the mayor's wife, was set to get her hair cut drastically short, too. However, in the end she didn't have to after Paul Sinclair from local business Penninton Properties took on the challenge in her place.

Meanwhile, Help for Heroes will soon be feeling the benefit of the money raised for it – and a range of other similar charities that help people such as British soldiers and other service people – through the Tower of London WW1 commemoration instalation, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, which is ongoing at the moment.  ADNFCR-2867-ID-801741905-ADNFCR
