Soldier 'wants to return to Afghanistan'

Soldier 'wants to return to Afghanistan'

An inspirational soldier is set to prove to his military bosses that he is fighting fit and ready to return to Afghanistan by making a solo parachute jump over Poole Harbour.

The Worcester News reported that brave Tom Neathway, who lost an arm and both his legs while serving in Afghanistan, is determined to complete his tour of duty in the Middle East.

He will wear prosthetic legs during the jump and control his descent with his right arm before being picked up by a boat in the harbour below.

Corporal Neathway says he still has two months left to serve in Afghanistan - the time he would have spent in the country had he not been injured by a blast from a roadside booby trap in July 2008.

He hopes to return to northern Helmand to his post as a sniper following his parachute jump.

Last month, the Oxford Mail highlighted Corporal Neathway's efforts to support other soldiers who have been injured in battle.

He currently spends time visiting troops at Selly Oak hospital in Birmingham in addition to his work as an administrator at RAF Brize Norton.
