Soldier to complete marathon challenge for troops' charity

Soldier to complete marathon challenge for troops' charity

An energetic soldier is set to embark on a mammoth endurance expedition to raise money for a military charity.

Staff Sergeant Jim Offord has created the Ten Squaddies Challenge and treadmill marathons to generate funds for the St Dunstan’s appeal, the News and Crier reports.

The 39-year-old Royal Engineer from 39 Engineer Regiment, Cambridge, will complete two marathons a day between November 1st and 5th, alongside other team members.

Completing each course in six hours, the runners will then have a six-hour recovery.

Mr Offord said he chose St Dunstan's for a number of reasons.

He added: "But the most important one is that we want to give something back to a charity that helps our fellow soldiers in difficult times."

It was recently revealed Dave Leadingham and his girlfriend Julia intend to travel by pedalo along 240 miles of the Grand Union Canal between Oxford and Foxton to raise cash for Support Our Soldiers.
