Soldier rehabilitation centre opens in Devonport

Help for Heroes has funded a new centre to assist injured soldiers in their rehabilitation.

A 12-bed accommodation unit has been opened at Devonport Naval Base and Vice Admiral Charles Montgomery cut the red tape, the Herald reports.

The Naval Service Recovery Pathway is being run at the base and deals with troops who are in recovery from a range of injuries.

Those running the centre are now seeking planning permission to build a new 72-bed recovery unit for service personnel to use, as well as fitting family bedrooms, a garden and adapted swimming pool.

Mr Montgomery said the soldiers he has seen at the base are a real inspiration and have "shown exceptional determination, resilience and bravery".

His comments echo those made recently by footballer John Terry, who told the Sun he is inspired by members of the armed forces and said he would not have the courage to fight on the front line.
