A Nantwich soldier who is due to return to Afghanistan is raising money for Help for Heroes before he goes back to serve in the country.
Michael Collins is working alongside his partner Susie Wheeler to host a charity auction night in aid of the organisation, the Crewe Guardian reports.
Held at the end of the month, the event is part of a range of fundraising efforts made by the soldier, which include a sponsored 177 mile trek of Offa's Dyke in North Wales.
"I was only too glad to have Michael home safe and sound but instead of putting his feet up while on leave, he has thrown himself into our fundraising drive," Ms Wheeler said.
Items set to go under the hammer for Help for Heroes include a signed picture of footballer Steven Gerrard – who captained England in last year's World Cup – and vouchers for local businesses and services.
