Sailors prove long distance relationships can work

Single soldiers worrying about how well a relationship with an army penpal might go on their return back to the UK could feel reassured by the story of two sailing fans who manage to sustain their love even when they are miles apart.

Jessica Watson and Mike Perham, who are both well known sailors, are working to keep their relationship afloat despite the fact that Jessica lives in Australia and Mike hails from the UK.

However, in a bid to make their relationship go the distance, Mike is currently staying down under with Jessica, which could fill single soldiers with hope that a partnership can work even under tough circumstances.

Speaking to magazine New Idea, Mike said that the pair feel as though they have known each other forever.

"I think it comes from sharing some of the same dreams," he pondered.

Many famous faces maintain long distance relationships, including footballer David Beckham and his wife Victoria, who remain strong despite his sporting commitments in the US and Italy, as well as her design work which takes her all over the world.
