Queen's Gallantry Medal awarded to heroic solider

A heroic soldier from Leamington Spa will be awarded with a prestigious accolade for his efforts on the frontline in Afghanistan.

Captain Wayne Owers, of the Royal Logistic Corps, is set to be honoured with the Queen's Gallantry Medal for defusing more bombs during his tour of duty between March and September last year than any other British man, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

Despite the team he led in Helmand Province being blown up on two occasions, Captain Owers says he enjoyed his work.

"We just got on with it. Confidence is built on knowing your training was first class, your team being professional and reliable and the wider military protection you receive on each task from the battle groups," he advises.

Captain Mark Hale was recently awarded with a posthumous Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service for his efforts in the Sangin Valley area of Afghanistan, the Bournemouth Daily Echo reported.
