Online dating 'becoming a mainstream success'

Online dating 'becoming a mainstream success'

Hooking up over the internet is currently at its most popular and has enabled many couples to get together, it has been suggested.

Writing for the Chicago Tribune, Wailin Wong noted the practice has pierced the mainstream and changed drastically over the last 15 years.

The reporter quoted Michelle Teplitz, a 29-year-old who met her husband after searching for Mr Right via the web.

She remarked: "It weeds out the people you wouldn't want to talk to in a bar."

The journalist explained the technique of looking for love via digital means has shaken off any negative stigma it may have once carried in its early days and added online courtship is now an accepted and much-utilised part of modern society.

According to the Scottish Sun, internet dating is now worth around £105 million and 12 million dates a year are being scheduled within the forums of the digital world.
