October 10th 2014 is this year's Red, White and Blue Day (RWB Day).

The event is the work of ABF The Soldiers' Charity alongside The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.

One of the day's focuses is fundraising. It asks UK schoolchildren to wear clothes in red, white and blue colours, paying £1 each to help these charities.

RDBDay 2013 saw more than £40,000 raised, with more than 185 schools taking part.

This year's event has more than 360 schools planning to participate – equivalent to 120,000 pupils.

A special lesson plan has been developed for the day, alongside a movie looking at frontline rations in World War One. Andrew Robertshaw, historian and author, features in the film.

"The response from schools signing up for this year’s day has been fantastic. The lesson plans and film will give the pupils a very interactive and enjoyable day, even if the food may leave a lot to be desired," said Red, White and Blue Day's Patty Wallis.

"It’s a fantastic way to teach more pupils than ever about the difficulties faced by service men and women and their families on the home front.”

The resources are going to be launched August 4th, and schools must sign up to get them. They can do this via the Day's official website.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity helps soldiers past and present as well as their families, and has been the national charity for the Army since 1944.

The RAF Benevolent Fund is a similar charity for those connected to the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is the equivalent for the Royal Navy.

This year's Red White and Blue day comes in the centenary year of the start of World War One, which began in 1914 and raged until 1918. The conflict is the focus of a wide range of charity and cultural events at the moment, due to its anniversary.  ADNFCR-2867-ID-801738292-ADNFCR
