Mums prepare 'home comfort' boxes for troops
Soldiers currently taking on the Taliban in Afghanistan will be receiving gifts from Blighty pretty soon thanks to a group of mums who want to remind them that everyone at home is thinking of them.
As part of the Afghan Heroes Thank a Soldier project, the mothers will be heading to the Bath and Somerset West Showground this weekend to make 10,000 'home comfort' boxes, thisissomerset.co.uk reported.
The packages will include things such as deodorant, toothpaste, shower gel, puzzle books and sweets, which will then make their way to Afghanistan for troops to receive on Armed Forces Day later this year.
Denise Harris, who lost her son corporal Lee Scott in the fighting, told the news provider that everyone is pitching in to help support soldiers currently engaged in battle.
"There will be some of us mothers and our families, as well as people from all over the UK, the MoD [Ministry of Defence] will be there, and we even have officers and their wives packing up the 10,000 gift parcels," she added.
A group of 14 mums dubbed The Riflemums are top spend the May bank holiday living like soldiers on the Brecon Beacons to raise money for the Rifles Charities.
