Members of the armed forces display their hidden talents

People may be forgiven for thinking that members of the army, RAF and navy's talents lie in their careers, but a recent showcase has proved that they could be worthy of a place on the X Factor.

Soldiers, airmen and sailors in Wiltshire recently threw off their uniforms and took to the stage at a Garrison's Got Talent show, entertaining around 600 people and raising thousands of pounds for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help (SSAFA), the Gazette News has reported.

A range of 18 different acts were judged by a Britain's Got Talent-esque panel and one judge in particular was blown away by the quality of the performances.

"I thought it would be like a karaoke evening but then the acts turned out and I was gob-smacked and the talent here was first-class, absolutely brilliant," said Chris Sturgess from Garrison FM.

The £3,000 raised from ticket sales alone will go towards funding SSAFA services such as a confidential support line, as well as providing help for injured soldiers.

Former solider Lee Corbett recently embarked on a 2,500-mile walk around the coast of mainland UK to raise money for the Help the Heroes charity.
