A historic parade took place in northern Germany to mark the end of the British Military’s association with Fallingbostel.

The event saw soldiers from The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys), The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland and The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers march through the town of Fallingbostel in remembrance.

The British had been involved with the town 70 years ago when units from the country liberated Stalag XIB, Prisoner of War camp, and captured the town.

During the ceremony, hundreds of spectators gathered to hear music from The Marching Band, Bugles of the Rifles Band, the Pipes and Drums of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and The Highlanders.

Speaking about the event, Colonel Andy Reynolds, commander Bergen-Hohne Garrison, said: “Following 70 years of tremendous support it is with deep regret that we leave Fallingbostel this summer – what began in war is ending in peace and enduring friendship. We take this opportunity to celebrate those friendships and thank our German hosts who have supported us in our time here.

"It is also a huge accolade for the units represented  to receive the Federal Fahnenband, the highest honour awarded by the Federal Ministry of Defence.”

Fallingbostel is a place where many British soldiers choose to settle after serving in the army and they have become an integral part of the local community.

Once the inspection of each of the units were completed by the viewing party, they were presented with the prestigious Federal Fahnenband, a ribbon of honour, to commemorate their service within Germany.

Major General John Henderson former Commander British Forces Germany and the Burgermeister (Mayor) of Fallingbostel were responsible for carrying out the inspections.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801788565-ADNFCR
