Gordon Brown 'really proud of UK soliders'

Gordon Brown has revealed his admiration for soliders who are currently on the Afghanistan frontline, stating that he is "really, really proud" of them.

The prime minister made a surprise visit to troops in the country on Saturday (March 6th) in the hope of boosting morale.

He said: "I thank them for their courage, professionalism and dedication. We we are now making the progress that is necessary."

Mr Brown went on to add that Operation Moshtarak, the combined Afghan and Allied push against Taliban forces, is already providing hope for the local community.

The prime minister promised troops that £100 million will be spent on better armoured patrol vehicles, while £18 million will go on anti-bomb equipment.

Soldiers serving in Afghanistan are soon to receive a further boost in the form of a series of gift boxes from the UK that are being sent as part of the Afghan Heroes Thank a Soldier Campaign, which hopes to make them aware that everyone back home is grateful for all their hard work.
