At a press conference in Kabul, the Conservative leader stated more money would be made available for combating the ongoing threat of roadside bombs.
Mr Cameron revealed £67 million would be spent on the effort, which adds to the £150 million pledge made by Gordon Brown last year for similar means.
He remarked: "For me, the issue of Afghanistan is the most important foreign policy, the most important national security issue for my country."
Significant advances have been made by the nation's Armed Forces in the south-central Asian country both in driving out al Queda and damaging its interests in Pakistan, he added.
The Ministry of Defence recently confirmed Royal Marines stationed in Helmand Province have been equipped with new Sharpshooter rifles to assist them in their front-line battle against the Taliban.
