Cubans make world's largest daiquiri

Cubans make world's largest daiquiri

People are always looking to get into the Guinness World Records Book.

The recognition that comes with such a feat can be very enjoyable and a team of mixologists from Cuba are keen to have their effort validated.

Some ten bartenders at El Floridita in Old Havana have created the world's largest daiquiri cocktail in honour of the tavern's most famous customer - novelist Ernest Hemingway.

The concoction was 270 litres, came in a 6.5 ft-tall cocktail glass and required 65 people to work on it.

Manager of the bar Anders Aranciba said: "It is a dream that we have wanted to make reality for more than a year. It is a distinctive experience in homage to the great daiquiri cocktail."

The attempt coincided with what would have been Hemingway's 113th birthday and the writer - who penned For Whom the Bell Tolls and A Farewell to Arms - lived in the Finca Vigia estate near Havana from 1939 until 1960.
