A cricket club is hosting a summer ball to earn money for Help for Heroes, after two of its members were injured on duty.

Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club wants to honour soldiers fighting in Afghanistan by raising funds for the charity, the Essex County Standard reports.

A ball will take place on August 20th and efforts are already underway to gain as much interest in the event as possible.

Spaces for up to 250 guests will be available and tickets will cost between £40 and £50.

A raffle and auction are planned for the event and local residents and businesses are being asked to contribute items to serve as prizes.

Organisers might consider having some live music at the ball, as the Clitheroe Advertiser recently revealed a concert is being held at Burnley Football Club to help the same cause.

Musicians and singers from the area will attend the gig on June 10th, where there will also be other attractions such as dancing and an auction.
