The cold climate test chamber is normally used for testing cars at Jaguar Land Rover.

But recently it was put to a very different use, when Luke Darlington and Jaco van Gass, who both want to take part in the forthcoming Invictus Games, had a cryotherapy recovery session there at a temperature of – 40 degrees C.

Often used in the world of sport, Cryotherapy helps repair muscles following exercise.

Gass and Darlington are both wounded servicemen and want to be part of the Invictus Games' British Armed Forces cycling team.

They had their cool recovery session after taking a 40km bike ride recently, and were supervised by sports therapists and engineers from Jaguar Land Rover.

Tickets are already on sale for the Invictus Games, which will be happening September 10th to 14th and are set to feature 400 injured, wounded or sick service people as participants.

The games are presented by Jaguar Land Rover, with the Ministry of Defence and Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry backing them.

Venues for the competition include Lee Valley Athletics Centre and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Former Private Jaco van Gass, who lost an arm below the elbow while in Afghanistan serving his country, has said that, with limited time before participants are selected, he's using every moment available to train.

"Thanks to this unique training opportunity from Jaguar Land Rover I’m hopeful that my selection chances have been boosted and that I’ve reached my fitness peak," he added.

Chairman of the Invictus Games, Sir Keith Mills, has said the event is getting closer and closer, and it's really good to see British hopefuls "stepping up a gear to get into shape".

Prince Harry is a big supporter of the Games, and even launched them. Recently, he also visited a group of East London teens who were training to be Digital Media Champions for the sporting event, in a surprise drop-in.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801737832-ADNFCR
