Soldiers who find their crunches are having no effect on their stomach and whose press-ups are doing nothing for their arms and shoulders are probably doing them wrong.

That’s according to Stacy Berman, founder of Stacy’s Boot Camp, who told NY1 that doing exercises the wrong way doesn’t benefit the muscles and can lead to troops injuring themselves.

For the perfect press-up, she recommends that soldiers keep their stomach tight and their body rigid when lowering and coming up.

"One of the most-common mistakes I see is the hips going up and down as you are doing the push-up. So really you are not bending your elbows that much and you are just sort of letting your butt go up and down," she told the news provider.

After doing all this work, soldiers should make sure they eat good food, as fat will cover even the biggest muscles, Mitch Batkin, senior vice president at Sportandhealth.com, told the Washington Post’s Express blog.
