Armed Forces Community Covenant backed in Mansfield

Mansfield District Council has announced it is going to sign the Armed Forces Community Covenant.

By agreeing to support the initiative, local groups and charities will be able to access a £30 million government funding stream, which is called the Community Covenant Grant Scheme.

According to the Mansfield Chad, the local authority will team up with the Royal British Legion to promote the initiative throughout Mansfield.

Executive Mayor Tony Egginton stated: "The council's work has already been a bench mark for other local authorities to emulate. This further motion is yet another demonstration of our commitment to our returning heroes."

He added it comes after the Mansfield Veterans Charter was signed in 2009.

It is hoped military personnel and veterans will be able to access further support once the project is up and running.

Among the aims of the Armed Forces Community Covenant is to nurture public understanding and awareness about the issues affecting servicemen and women.
