ABF to benefit from 1,000-mile charity cycle

Four Skipton Rotarians are going to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats in 12 days to raise money for ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

Kevin Wharton, David Goldie, Dave Wathen and Mark Facer are taking part in the 1,000-mile plus challenge under the name Teamskiptonrotary, the Craven Herald reports.

So far the group has collected around £5,000, which puts them one-third of the way to reaching their fundraising target.

Mr Wharton, who is president of the Skipton Rotary Club, stated the four of them have been training hard ahead of the start date on August 31st, but they expect to be stretched to their limits.

"However, our task is far less daunting than those faced by service personnel working in some of the world's most dangerous places," he added.

Teamskiptonrotary has linked-up with eight businesses, including Skipton Building Society, Coniston Hotel and Estate, in order to help them prepare for the upcoming challenge.
